A review of the rules of engagement for county listing in Georgia for those who are unfamiliar with the concept:
  • You must have seen a naturally occurring species in a county to get credit for it.  Even if you see every introduced species in Georgia in a particular county, it doesn't count until you at least see a crow or cardinal or red-tail or something that's not a House Sparrow, Rock Dove, ECD, starling, House Finch, etc. (hence the category "Yeah, I saw a crow here once" for species counts of > 1 but < 25).  This is an easy rule to follow.  Either crow or one of the vultures are usually the first birds you see in a county.
  • In general, follow ABA listing rules:
    •  mind your manners;
    •  don't harass the birds;
    •  respect private property and don't get shot by landowners;
    •  it's where the bird is that counts, not where you are.
  • You must keep other members aware of interesting stuff you have found in a county.  Examples are things like Brown Creeper, Fox Sparrow, Pine Siskin, Northern Pintail, Painted Bunting, Eurasian Collared-Dove, etc.--species which have an ill-defined or "flexible" range.
  • Make others aware of "new" sites or potential sites you have investigated.
  • You must be honest (a pre-requisite for birders anyway).  Keep the game in perspective; there is no million dollar prize for seeing the most species.
  • Pages and maps are updated quarterly, so send me your list during the first week of quarter month for data ending on the last day of the previous month:
    - January, February and March (1st quarter), send me your list during the first week of April.
    - April, May and June (2nd quarter), send me your list during the first week of July.
    - July, August and September (3rd quarter), send me your list during the first week of October.
    - October, November and December (4th quarter), send me your list during the first week of January

Latitudes to be used for Pelagic "County  Listing"
